  Smoothbeam

Smoothbeam is a diode laser with the unique 1,450nm wavelength, which heats water in the skin (dermis), as well as targeting the sebaceous glands. The top layer of the skin (epidermis) is protected by a patented dynamic cooling device, and therefore remains intact.

1. Skin rejuvenation, textural irregularities, acne scars:
The diode laser targets and heats up water in the upper dermis, inducing mild thermal injury to the collagen. The body’s natural healing response initiates the deposition of new and more organized collagen. Improvement in fine lines, wrinkles, skin texture and acne scars can be achieved.

2. Sebaceous hyperplasia:
Sebaceous hyperplasia is commonly seen in middle-aged and older adults. Smoothbeam offers a non-invasive option for treating this condition. Unlike conventional treatments that require shaving, excision or ablation, the 1,450nm wavelength of the diode laser selectively targets sebaceous glands within the skin, allowing quick treatment with minimal downtime.

3. Acne and oily skin:
Unlike other light-based therapies that temporarily kill bacteria, Smoothbeam applies photothermal energy to where acne begins – the sebaceous glands. The thermal energy from the 1,450nm diode laser alters the structure of the sebaceous glands, the root cause of acne lesions, leading to improvement in acne lesions.

Studies have shown that within 8 weeks of an initial treatment, patients treated with Smoothbeam laser exhibited an 83% reduction in facial acne with a remission time of up to 18 months. (ref).

How is the Smoothbeam treatment performed?
Topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the treatment area to improve comfort level. After treatment, a variable degree of redness is to be expected, which usually resolves within a few hours to a few days. The treatment is usually well-tolerated. The total number of treatment sessions required depends on the skin conditions being treated.
