  LASER HAIR REMOVAL

1. How do I know if I am a candidate for the laser treatment?
Each patient must be seen by our physician for a complete consultation to evaluate the presence, extent, and possible cause of the undesired hair. Should the hair be determined to be appropriate for treatment, the laser-assisted hair removal process may be initiated. It is highly advisable for the hair to be fully grown (at its worst) during the consultation; however, shaving is permitted prior to the laser treatment.

2. Is the treatment more effective than electrolysis or waxing?
Laser-assisted hair removal has been shown to be more effective than any other hair removal process currently available. It is an FDA-approved procedure. While complete elimination of hair cannot be guaranteed, the majority of patients report thinner, sparse, and slower re-growth of hair after laser treatment.

3. How many treatments will I need?
It is hard to predict how many treatments someone will need because hair growth (slow or fast), type (coarse or thin), and color (dark or light) varies between individuals and in different body locations. While most patients report a significant reduction in hair growth after four laser sessions, additional laser treatments are usually necessary to achieve the desire effect.

4. What I can do before treatment?

Before treatment, you are advised to avoid tanning and sunless tanners. No plucking, waxing, or electrolysis should be done, although shaving can be used.

5. What does the procedure involve?
The area to be treated is first shaved (if not already done within 24 hours prior to the procedure) and topical anesthetic cream can be applied for 30 minutes. The laser is then scanned over the area. Immediately after treatment, the skin is cleansed and a moisturizer is applied.

6. Does the procedure hurt?
No two people have the same pain tolerance, but patients state that the laser pulses feel like the snapping of a rubber band or warm pinpricks against the skin with mild heat that lasts for only the time the laser is actually being used. No prolonged discomfort had been associated with the treatment.

7. How long does the laser process take?

Laser treatments can vary from 15 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the size and extend of the areas undergoing treatment. Laser treatments are usually repeated at four to six week intervals.

8. How will my skin look after treatment?
Most patients have slight swelling around the hair follicles appear within a few minutes. Ice packs may be applied to the skin following treatment. A moisturizing cream can be applied. A broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with SPF 30 is recommended for the treated area because it may be more sensitive to the sun immediately after treatment. Alpha-hydroxy acid and skin exfoliation scrubs should be avoided within 24 hours after treatment.
