What is microdermabrasion?
Microdermarbrasion is a non-surgical, non-invasive skin restoration process approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It was first introduced in Europe in 1986.
How does the treatment work?
It is the use of highly controlled negative pressure and the superficial abrasion of the skin with aluminum oxide. The hand piece emits a steam of tiny crystals onto the surface of the skin, causing an abrasive action that gently removes the dead and flaking skin cells, creating smoother and younger-looking skin. The vacuum action stimulates the production of new collagen and skin cells to improve skin texture and elasticity.
What skin problems can be treated?
enlarged pore size, oily and acne prone skin
superficial acne scar, black heads & whiteheads
superficial pigmentation
dull and rough textured skin.
Is there any downtime?
No. Your skin may appear red and is unlikely to persist for more than a few hours. You can resume work or any social activities immediately. This is also known as “lunchtime” treatment.
Is it painful?
Not at all. There is no need for any type of anesthesia. You will only feel the gentle suction against your skin.
Can it be combined with chemical peels?
It can be used in conjunction with other procedures such as skin rejuvenation laser and chemical peel in order to achieve better results.
How long does each treatment take and how many treatments will I need?
Each treatment takes 15-30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.
The number of treatments depends on the severity of the skin problem the patient has. We recommend 8 sessions in one to two week intervals followed by monthly treatments for maintenance.
Are there any side effects?
Only the superficial layers of the epidermis are removed, therefore no trauma or bleeding will be induced. Both moisturizers and makeup can be applied right away. Sunscreen is recommended for the treated area because it may be more sensitive to the sun immediately after treatment. Alpha-hydroxy acid and skin exfoliation scrubs should be avoided within 24 hours after treatment.
Who is not suitable for microdermabrasion?
Patients who have active keloids, undiagnosed lesions, recent herpes outbreaks, warts, active rosacea or with any signs of sunburn should not be treated until lesions subside. |
