NON-ABLATIVE SKIN REGUVENATION |

Non-ablative skin rejuvenation implies the use of laser or light source to improve the skin tone, texture, pore size, redness and pigmentary inconsistency of patients with minimal or no down time. Different patients have different needs and patient’s response can differ, therefore more than one laser/ IPL system is necessary to achieve the best result. Our centre is equipped with the following lasers and IPL devices for non-ablative skin rejuvenation for our patients:
(1) QS 1064nm
(2) Long pulsed 532nm
(3) Long pulsed 1064nm
(4) Long pulsed 755nm
(5) Long pulsed 595nm
(6) Long pulsed 1540nm
(7) Starlux IPL
(8) DDD Ellipse IPL
For patient whose main concern is to improve skin toning, pore size and texture, the following combination can lead to optimal clinical outcome:-
Alternate session with Long pulsed 595nm (V-beam) with QS 1064 nm Nd:YAG (Medlite) for one session and then long pulsed 1540 (Aramis) and QS 1064 nm Nd:YAG for the other. Long pulsed 595nm, long pulsed 1540nm and QS 1064nm lasers have been shown to be effective in the improvement of collagen production. However, their depth of penetration differ, by using such combination, optimal effect is to be expected.
For patients who need to improve skin texture, skin toning as well as pigmentation and redness:-
Long pulsed 532nm and long pulsed 1064nm (Gemini), studies have shown that combination of these 2 laser devices can lead to mild improvement in wrinkle, moderate improvement in skin toning, skin texture and significant improvement in pigmentation and redness.
Intense pulsed light source (Starlux, the fourth generation of IPL) can also be useful in term of improvement of skin texture, skin toning, pigmentation and redness. Although there is no clinical study that compare IPL vs laser in non-ablative skin rejuvenation, our experience indicated that IPL while very effective in the reduction of pigment and redness, tends to be less effective in the improvement of skin wrinkle. IPL unlike laser emitted a fixed spectrum of wavelength and therefore is less specific than laser which emitted a fix wavelength. IPL do have the advantage of no down time. Therefore, to further enhance the effect of IPL, we add QS 1064 immediately after IPL and in doing so, increase the efficacy of IPL for non-ablative skin rejuvenation.A combination of the above system will allow optimal outcome.
Photomodulation using light emitted diode laser. Photomodulation is a new concept whereby rather than using light to destroy the target, light activate or inhibit certain cellular function. Light source thereby modulate the cellular activities. Study performed by Investigators from New York University and John Hopskin University indicated that Gentlewave can increase collagen production while at the same time reduce the enzyme that break down collagen. Gentlewave can certainly be effectively in improving mild degree of photoaging but is particularly useful as an adjunctive therapy when use in combination with other device such as IPL/Laser/RF for skin rejuvenation. |
